1930s Garden Welwyn Garden City

Rosemary was brought in to renovate this 1930s garden in 2012 and has now worked with three consecutive owners, helping each one bring their own personal touch to the space. The garden had solid structural elements but needed a planting scheme to enhance the mature Rhododendrons and enliven the area closest to the house. A sweeping path leads to a wishing-well brought to England by a previous owner in the 1930s. An underground WW2 bomb shelter has been left intact, now with a seating area on top. Curved yew hedging next to the dining terrace provides a shelter for the seating and frames the view down the garden. Tall Yew hedging at the back behind the well screens the utility area. Step-over apples, giant lavenders and irises line the main path. The low hedged borders combine perennials and trees providing year-round colour.
